Tuning up a 996 S with a basic performance of 119,3 PS (tested before on our dyno). Ducati indicates 127 PS for this engine!?


Goal was 142-145 hp but with this basis we only reached nearly 140 hp. But a plus of 20 hp isnt so bad, right? Here the performance diagrams:

    What we have done


    The vehicle was delivered completely which means that first all the engine parts like cylinder and heads had to be dismantled. The heads were reequipped on 37mm inlet and 31mm exhaust valves. Additionally the squeezing edge was adjusted and the cam timing was precisely adjusted. The compression was increased by the use of Pistal pistons (Important! always use racing spark plugs when using high compression pistons!). To get the performance out of the engine open mufflers are necessary. We recommend to use Silmotor or Akrapovic silencers. Afterwards we adjusted all on our dyno stand and made a special Eprom for the bike.




    Adjusting the cam timing is a worthwhile job!



    We always put a light flywheel on all of our engines. At the same time the crank rotation should be tested and adjusted if necessary.


    This increase in output can be attained only by the complete package. Only treatment of heads would not affect the achievement in this kind. Crucially are also the high compression pistons. The next step of an increase would be the use of racing cam shafts. This would still improve the performance. But you can go for it step by step ;-)

    Shortly thereafter we had still another 996 SPS those got the same treatment like the 996 S above,but without Pistal pistons. The final tuning took place with 50mm exhaust tube and open Silmotor mufflers. Here the measuring diagrams:

    The red curve shows the standard performance of an 996 SPS engine and the green curve the performance after the tuning job. HP rises from 134 hp to 145 hp and torque about approx. 7 newtonmeter.
